  1. What kind of discounts does Europe By Car offer?

    Europe By Car offers seasonal discounts for students, teachers.

  2. What do i need to pick up my car?

    RENTALS:
    A valid passport.
    Your Europe By Car reservation voucher, stamped "Paid".
    BUY BACK/LEASE:
    A valid passport.
    Your Europe By Car reservation voucher AND your lease contract, BOTH stamped "Paid".
  3. Diesel vs. Gasoline?

    Diesel fuel ranges from 10-15% less than standard gas in most of Western Europe - the UK, Latvia, Slovakia & Switzerland being the exceptions. Furthermore, Diesel engines are 20-30% more efficient than gasoline engines, yielding a combined savings of nearly 30-40% savings in running costs. As a result, nearly half the vehicles in Western Europe are Diesels, and Diesel fuel is as widely available as standard gasoline.

    Wikipedia has the most accurate and comprehensive chart of fuel prices available, but you'll have to do some scrolling to find the country you're looking for.

  4. Do I need an International Drivers Permit to drive in Europe?

    Your home country's drivers license is sufficient for most of Western Europe, however-

    However for the following countries we do recommend an International Translation of your license:
    Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzogovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Ukraine, and the Vatican City.

Car Questions

  1. Who can drive the car?

    RENTALS:
    The person in whose name the car was rented (as stated on the Europe By Car voucher), and any additional driver(s) requested when the order was originally placed. Those additional drivers are added and paid for at the time the rental is picked up, and should be present at the time of pick-up.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    The person in whose name the Lease order was placed (as stated on the Europe By Car voucher AND the Lease contract), AND - if they are legally eligible for the Buy-Back/Lease program - the following: the contract signer's spouse, his/her co-habitee, and any direct ascendants & descendants. For eligibility e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-6pm.

  2. Is there any age restriction?

    RENTALS:
    Minimum age requirements range from 21 to 25 years. A "young driver" surcharge sometimes applies if you are less than 25. Additionally, many companies have a maximum age limit of 65 or 70 years. For details please e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-6pm.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Drivers must 18 or older, with a valid drivers license, of course. There is no maximum age limit.

  3. Are there fees for additional drivers?

    RENTALS:
    Yes, there generally IS a charge for an extra driver, but this depends on the country and the car category. Fees vary, so make sure to find out in advance via e-mail or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-6pm.

    BUY-BACK LEASES:
    No.

  4. Are there any DROP OFF charges? Are there any ONE-WAY DROP OFF charges?

    RENTALS:
    Picking up and returning within the same country are usually free, however some notable exceptions are The U.K., France, Spain & Italy, and a nominal fee is applicable in Germany. Fees for one-ways within the same country are noted in that countries terms and conditions. If you pick-up in one country, and return the car in a different country, there is always an additional one-way drop charge.     BUY-BACK LEASES:
    There is no additional fee for picking up and returning in France, including the French sides of the Geneva airport, and the Mulhouse/Basel airport. There are additional fees for any pick-up, or drop-off, outside France.

  5. Can you guarantee a specific car model?

    RENTAL:
    NO car rental company can guarantee a specific car model UNLESS it is a special order OR a Buy-Back/Lease car. When you place a car rental order, you are reserving a category. Vehicles in any given category are comparable in size and luggage capacity.

    BUY-BACK/LEASE:
    Yes, you will receive the exact model you ordered, brand-new, straight from the factory.
    The only thing that we can't confirm is the color. But you may ask.

  6. Do you offer accessories?

    RENTALS:
    Yes, most of our local suppliers offer roof racks, baby seats and other items. However, you may have to order them in advance. For details please e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-6pm.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Yes, but they must be ordered at the time of your initial reservation.

  7. Can I order Air Conditioning?

    RENTALS:
    Most rentals have Air Conditioning as a standard option, but it is far more common in larger & specialty cars. There may be additional costs for upgrading a smaller car to one with Air Conditioning, depending on the location. For details please e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-6pm.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Virtually all the Buy-Back/Lease vehicles are equipped with Air Conditioning standard, however, we recommend verifiying this upon ordering, or - if concerned after the fact - e-mailing or calling us at 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST, just to make sure.

  8. Can you guarantee an automatic transmission?

    RENTALS:
    Yes.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Yes.

  9. Do your cars come with unlimited mileage?

    RENTALS:
    Yes.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Yes.

  10. Is there a minimum duration?

    RENTALS:
    Our usual minimum rental period is 7 days, but there are exceptions. For details please e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Yes. The minimum is 17 days, but you may use the car a shorter duration - which may be cheaper than a 14-16 day rental. You will not receive a pro-rated refund for unused days, however.

  11. Is there a maximum duration?

    RENTALS:
    No.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    The maximum is 170 days. In some cases, however, it may be extended to 355 days. For eligibility e-mail us before your drop date, or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST.

  12. Can the VAT be refunded?

    RENTALS:
    No.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    As it is a tax-free program, there is no VAT to be refunded.

  13. Who can pick-up the car?

    RENTALS:
    The person in whose name the car was rented and paid (as stated on the Europe By Car voucher), and no one else.

    BUY-BACK LEASES:
    The person in whose name the Lease order was placed (as stated on the Europe By Car voucher AND the Lease contract). In rare circumstances, and in cases of emergency, it MAY be possible for one who is legally eligible to drive the vehicle under the Buy-Back/Lease program conditions (i.e. the contract signer's spouse, his/her co-habitee, and any direct ascendants & descendants. Insurance Questions

  1. Do your rates include insurance?

    RENTALS:
    Basic rental rates include third party liability, collision and theft insurance with a deductible. Inclusive rental rates usually add a CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and/or TP or TLW (Theft Protections or Theft Loss Waiver, respectively), with a reduced deductible that may - depending on the country & car category - be reduced to zero by purchase additional "Super" CDW or "Super "TLW" coverage.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Fully comprehensive insurance is included, as is zero-deductible collision/fire/theft coverage. This insurance does not cover baggage and/or personal effects transported in the vehicle.

  2. What is the deductible on the CDW and the TP?

    RENTALS:
    Deductibles on car rentals vary based on the value of the car, and range from 5,000EUR (for smaller cars) to - in rare cases - the full value of the vehicle (for high-end models). Optional CDW/TP/TLW is almost always offered by rental car companies to reduce (but not completely eliminate) such deductibles.     BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    There is no deductible.

  3. Will I get ROAD ASSISTANCE if something happens to the car?

    RENTALS:
    All cars come with 24/7 roadside assistance, and contact numbers/info are given to you upon pick-up.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    All cars come with 24/7 roadside assistance, and contact numbers/info are given to you PRIOR to departure.

  4. Which countries are covered by my car's insurance?

    RENTALS:
    it depends on the country of pick-up and car category. For more information, please e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (Corsica included) Germany, Great Britain (Gibraltar included), Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia-Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (Balearic Islands included), Sweden, Switzerland,Turkey (RENAULT ONLY).

 

Payment / Change / Cancellation

  1. When should I make my reservation?

    RENTALS:
    We recommend you place your reservation at least 14 days in advance. However, IF you have a more urgent request, e-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST regarding our myriad last-minute options. A rush fee may apply.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    We recommend you place your reservation at least 45 days in advance due to the program's high popularity and occasional limits on car availability. 21 business days is the absolute rule, however-

    IF you have an urgent request for a long-term vehicle and have already missed these deadlines, we have alternatives. E-mail us or call 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST to learn more. A rush fee may apply.

  2. Are there any FURTHER FEES, other than mentioned when I make my reservation?

    RENTALS:
    We inform all customers about any additional fees, whether paid in advance or in Europe (i.e. Road Fees and/or one-way drop off fees). The cost of additional drivers, roof racks, baby seats and similar accessories vary widely, and are best determined by e-mailing or calling 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST to learn more. Also There may be a nominal fee for late bookings (less than 14 days in advance)

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    There are no additional fees. Everything is included in your initial price quote. However, there may be a fee for late bookings (less than 35 days in advance depending on pick-up location)

  3. May I makes changes to my reservation after taken delivery of the vehicle?

    RENTALS:
    If you need to extend your rental for just a few days you should do so directly with the car rental supplier. If you need another week or more you can contact us and we will attempt to book a new rental with our supplier. You can e-mail us or call us at 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST to do so.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Yes, but you must do so directly with the manufacturer prior to drop-off. All necessary contact information is provided to you by us prior to departure.

  4. Can I pay for my car upon pick-up abroad?

    RENTALS:
    No, full pre-payment is required 30 days prior to the delivery date.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    No. Full pre-payment is required 45 days prior to the delivery date.

  5. What is the cancellation policy?

    RENTALS:
    For orders booked on-line, no cancellation fees will apply unless the order is cancelled 48 hours, or less, prior to the pick-up date. Orders booked by phone subject to a $25 minimum charge regardless of date of cancellation. Orders booked by phone also subject to additional fees if the order is cancelled 14 days, or less, prior to the pick-up date. E-mail or call us at 800-223-1516 Weekdays 9am-5:30pm EST for more info.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
    Cancellation policies are noted on the web site for each of the two manufacturers (Citroen & Renault). Cancellation fees apply immediately upon order confirmation by the manufacturer, Thereafter, cancellation fees vary depending on how long before the date of pick-up the order is cancelled.   6. Is there a fee for changing my reservation?

    RENTALS:
    Any change to the order requested less than 21 days before delivery will incur a $15 fee to cover processing costs.

    BUY-BACK/LEASES:
